NMEA logger for Blackberry Pearl 8120 and other phones

Point your Blackberry browser here bbtrail.jar
Your phone should then offer to download and install the program.

To use bbtrail you need a Java enabled phone with a SD card.
A bluetooth GPS.
Your GPS must be paired with your phone.

How to use bbtrail.

  1. Start bbtrail. ..............................................................................................................

  3. Press the menu key and choose Manual Start. ...........................................................
  4.                                                  
  5. Wait five seconds while the program finds the first bluetooth device and then press the 5 key.
  6.                                                  
  7. You should see a line that says U:=Ran Connect.  This indicates that the device was accessed and a connection URL obtained.
  8.                                                  
  9. Wait another five seconds and then press the 6 key.  The U: line should display the connection URL.  A connection is made to the GPS and a log file for the NMEA information is opened in the bbtrail folder on your SD card.
  10.                                                  
  11. There are three rows of information on the U: line.  You can select the row and column using your blackberry trackball.  The third row shows the NMEA file status and will say NMEAfile good if the file was opened ok.
  12.                                                  
  13. Press the q key, this will display the GPS information. Ignore the U: line contents.
  14.                                                  
  15. Press the 3 key, this will update the display with the GPS information every second.
  16.                                                  
  17. Press the 1 key when you want to exit the program.  You can access your NMEA file in the bbtrail folder on your SD card.

Notes.

  1. You can not run the program if you have your USB cable attached and the SD card opened on your PC.
  2. A sample Sony program was used as the base for bbtrail.  Some of the original features still exist but do not work.  This project is work in progress, when it is complete these other features will either work or be removed.
  3. The first time you run the program you will get four confirmation screens as the program creates the bbtrail flolder on your SD card.  After that you will only get one confirmation screen as the program creates a new log file.
